COLON HYDROTHERAPY
Frequently Asked Questions about Colon Hydrotherapy
What is colonic hydrotherapy and what method do you use?
The Woods Gravity Colon Hydrotherapy Method is a gravity-centered colonic, allowing for the simultaneous intake and exit of water throughout the treatment. Waste is softened and loosened, resulting in evacuation through natural peristalsis. During a treatment, the inflow of a small amount of water and the release of waste is repeated several times. The cleansing effects of colon hydrotherapy should produce better colon flow, tone and elimination. Also known as a "colonics", "colon irrigation", or "high colonic", colon hydrotherapy is a safe, effective method for cleansing the colon of waste material (without the use of drugs) by repeated, gentle flushing with highly filtered water. It is an internal bath for the colon.
How do I prepare for a Colonic?
How long does it take?
Sessions are 60 minutes.
Can I do Colonics if I am menstruating?
Yes. Menstruation is already a form of cleansing, and there is an absorbent pad placed underneath you for your comfort.
Do I need Colonics?
Everyone could benefit from a series of colonic sessions, and then a maintenance of regular colonics monthly or quarterly, or as needed. Waste material, especially that which has remained in the colon for some time, (i.e. impacted feces, dead cellular tissue, accumulated mucous, parasites, worms, etc) are quite toxic. These poisons can re-enter and circulate in the blood stream making us feel ill, tired or weak. Secondly, impacted materials impair the colon's ability to assimilate minerals and bacteria- produced vitamins. And finally, a build-up of material on the colon wall can inhibit muscular action causing sluggish bowel movements, constipation, and many issues can result, such as: headaches, backaches, constipation, fatigue, bad breath, body odor, irritability, spaciness, skin problems, abdominal gas, bloating, diarrhea, back pain and many more.
How many Colonic sessions do I need?
The number of treatments varies from individual to individual and what your issues and needs are, prevailing condition, diet and lifestyle. In some cases, the waste matter is dehydrated and hard and affixed to the colon wall, and it may take up to 6 to 10 or more colonics to sufficiently soften this accumulated fecal material. Also, keep in mind that the benefits of Colonics are cumulative. Those undergoing lifestyle and dietary changes may benefit from more frequent sessions, as are those undergoing detoxification programs, juice fasts, liver flushes, and more.
What type of equipment do you use?
I use the Woods Gravity Method System, which uses gravity as opposed to a machine to irrigate and massage the colon naturally. I find this method especially effective as it allows me to feel what is happening in the colon through the thin wall of the rubber tubing used to connect the speculum/scope to the view tube. I use Surgical Steel Speculums that are sterilized in a Medical Grade Autoclave.
Do Colonics have harmful side effects?
No, colonics have no known side effects. Some people may experience mild detoxification symptoms after a treatment, as toxins that have been lying dormant in the colon are now being flushed out. Some waste deposits may only be partially removed and this is why a series of treatments is advised, especially if new to colon cleansing.
Are there circumstances when Colon Hydrotherapy is not advisable?
Yes. Certain conditions such as active infections, active inflammation (such as in Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and diverticulitis), a painful fissure or painful hemorrhoids mean treatment cannot be comfortably carried out until they are healed or are in remission. Diseases such as congestive heart disease, severe uncontrolled hypertension, severe anemia, liver cirrhosis, kidney disease, severe hemorrhaging and colo-rectal cancer are also contra-indications for treatment. Some physical conditions such as severe abdominal or inguinal hernias make it an unsuitable treatment. Pregnancy is not advised in the first and third trimesters.
Do colonics remove the "friendly" bacteria from the colon?
Good bacteria can only breed in a clean environment. Colonics clean out the putrefying waste material and "bad" bacteria (yeasts, E. coli, etc) and make a better environment for good intestinal flora to thrive. A probiotic supplement should be taken after colonic to help the good bacteria proliferate. I can suggest several options like Dr. Fred Bisci’s Probiotic Blend.
What is the colon and what is its function?
The colon, or large intestine, is the end portion of the human digestive tract (food carrying passageway extending from the mouth to the anus). The colon is approximately 5 to 6 feet in length and approximately 2 ½ inches in diameter. Its major functions are to eliminate waste and to absorb water and nutrients, and the formation and elimination of waste. As well, there are bacteria living in the colon which synthesize valuable nutrients such as vitamins "K" and portions of the vitamin "B" complex.
